Habit Reversal Training (HRT) is a therapeutic approach that specifically targets unwanted habits and behaviors. It is designed to help individuals recognize the cues and triggers of their habitual behaviors and develop alternative actions. Through awareness training, competing response training, and social support techniques, therapists guide clients in replacing detrimental habits with more constructive behaviors. This approach is effective in addressing a variety of habit-related issues, including tic disorders, nail-biting, and hair-pulling. HRT is structured and goal-oriented, focusing on collaborative work with clients to achieve specific behavioral changes in a limited number of sessions.
